The meaning of this site


I want to create a site with a lot of information about the people who have Willemsma as their last name, just like me. If you also have this beautiful last name ;-) then I'll guarantee you that we are related somehow. You should know that the name Willemsma is not such an old name. The first person who used this name as last name was Haye Willems Willemsma. He lived between 1785 and 1847. The roots of the family Willemsma are in The Netherlands (Holland) in the province Friesland.

The reason that I want to create a site like this is the following happening... On Wednesday Oktober 11th in the year 2000 someone signed my guestbook on the url http://members.tripod.com/~pe1rwp. That someone was Judy Willemsma from Toronto, Canada. She wrote: 'You mean there are other Willemsma's out there? Are we related?.....' From that time we kept in touch via e-mail and we started sending pictures and info of other Willemsma's to eachother. I started to compare the little information she could tell me with the information that my aunt could give me from her (not finished yet) familytree. And then we found a connection. We were related... her husband Albert and I were distant cousins from eachother. We both were very happy because we got a lot of new information about the history of the Willemsma's and it was all because of internet!!

After almost two years of e-mail contact, I went to Canada to visit the Canadian Willemsma's last summer (July 2002). It was really nice to meet them! They told me a lot about their live in Canada and they showed me a lot of the Toronto-area and further, which was very beautiful. They really gave me a summer that I will never forget! (Thanks to all the Canadian Willemsma's!) They took me as a guest and treated me like one of the family.

Back in Holland I started to think about things like building a homepage for ALL Willemsma's to give information and last but not least to GET information of other Willemsma's all over the world! So, if you are an other Willemsma or if you can give me information about other Willemsma's don't hesitate, but send me some information! All information is welcome and it helps us a lot by completing the familytree. Info like: who are the parents and who were their parents, when were they born or when did they die, where do they live and so on is very welcome.
